2. They treat data readiness as a prerequisite, not an afterthought

Production AI runs on production data — which is messier, more varied, and more unpredictable than the data used in pilots. Organizations that successfully deploy AI invest in pipeline reliability and data governance before or alongside model development, not after it fails.

3. They build for human-AI collaboration, not replacement

The most durable AI deployments position the technology as a decision-support layer with clear escalation paths. When the model encounters edge cases or low-confidence scenarios, there's a defined process for human review. This isn't a limitation — it's a design feature that builds trust in the system over time.

4. They establish model governance from day one

A deployed model isn't a finished product. It needs to be monitored for performance drift, retrained as conditions change, and governed by people who understand both the technical and business dimensions. Without this infrastructure, even a well-built model will degrade quietly until it causes a problem.
